Sadia Charles
My studies enhanced and developed my skills, knowledge and attitude in people management, training and development, communication, organisational behaviour, and finance, just to name a few. I was able to immediately put into practice what I learnt and add value to my employer which contributed to my appointment as Human Resource Officer.

When Sadia got promoted she enrolled for an ABE Diploma so that she could be confident she have the skill set needed to excel in her new role.  She plans to pursue both her academic studies and her career and tells us, "Success comes with sacrifice, maturity and a 'can do' attitude". Here's her story:

"I am the daughter of Hilary James and Agnes King and a proud mother of two amazing sons.  Upon completing high school, I migrated to the city to pursue better opportunities and I am currently employed with Sea Island Cotton Shop, Saint Lucia’s biggest duty-free souvenir retailer, as a Human Resource Officer.

My journey with ABE commenced when I was promoted to Acting Human Resource Officer.  Given the competitive nature of the labour market, it was imperative that I equipped myself with the knowledge and business acumen needed to succeed in this role.  I enrolled on the Business and Human Resource Management programme at the National Research and Development Centre (NRDF) in Saint Lucia.

I opted to study with ABE because it is highly accredited in Saint Lucia. It offers a high level of flexibility which suited the demanding nature of my personal and professional life and the modules offer a global framework which prepares students for the evolving business environment.

My studies enhanced and developed my skills, knowledge and attitude in people management, training and development, communication, organisational behaviour, and finance, just to name a few.  I was able to immediately put into practice what I learnt and add value to my employer, which contributed to my appointment as Human Resource Officer.

I intend to complete the Level 6 Diploma and transfer my credits to a university where I can pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Human Resource Management.  My goals are to become a Human Resource Manager and later on study Psychology or Cognitive Behaviour.

My experience thus far with ABE has been challenging especially when balancing work, family and my studies but has also been very rewarding.  I believe that success comes with sacrifice, maturity and a “can do” attitude.   My advice for a successful study is to dedicate the time, practise, seek help and ask questions.

PS: Special thanks to my lecturer, Mrs Bernadette Thomas for her support in Contemporary Global Human Resource Management."
