Hannan Akil chose ABE for its structured and internationally recognised curriculum. She aspires to further her studies in the UK and eventually run a successful business. Hannan’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and ambition. Read her full story below:
''Hello, my name is Hannan Akil and I am from Kenya. I come from a close-knit family. My parents and two siblings have always encouraged me to pursue educational excellence and always believed that I was capable of achieving anything I put my mind to.
I have completed my O levels at CGHU in Nairobi Kenya, I also completed primary school at Aga Khan Primary school in Nairobi and middle school at Nairobi Jaffery Academy.
I was always fascinated by how businesses work and operate as I am aspiring to one day be able to experience what it's like to operate and run a successful business. The ABE programme offered a structured, internationally recognised curriculum that allowed me to gain a deep understanding of key business concepts, from strategy to leadership, while providing the flexibility to learn at my own pace.
ABE is a well-recognised course in Kenya and a sure way to gain a route into employment in Kenya in any desired business field. Many students prefer to study ABE due to this reason and the fact that it really broadens your business knowledge.
The most rewarding aspect of studying ABE is the continuous opportunity to challenge myself and develop strategic thinking. The programme equips me with practical skills that directly apply to real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and action. This dynamic blend of academic rigour and practical application is what truly makes it both engaging and valuable.
Studying with ABE has equipped me with a wide range of valuable skills, including strategic thinking, effective problem-solving, and strong analytical abilities. I have also developed a deeper understanding of business operations, financial management, and decision-making processes. Additionally, the programme has enhanced my communication, time management, and leadership skills, all of which are essential for success in both academic and professional settings.
Success in the study comes down to consistency and curiosity. Stay disciplined with your time management, but also allow space for deep, critical thinking. Engage with the material beyond just the surface, ask questions and connect the dots, it's the combination of focus and curiosity that leads to true mastery and above all you just need to believe that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.
My long-term career plan is to continue advancing in my education and ultimately apply that knowledge to the business world. I’ve already completed my Level 4 ABE Diploma, and I am currently working on my Level 5. My goal is to complete the ABE course at the degree level, and I’m working towards securing a scholarship at a prestigious UK university to further my studies. Once I’ve gained the necessary academic and practical experience, my ultimate ambition is to open and operate a successful business, leveraging everything I’ve learned to make a meaningful impact.
I am highly honoured to receive the Top Paper Award for the January 2024 semester in Introduction to Quantitative Methods within the ABE programme. This achievement reflects my dedication and hard work, as well as the unwavering support of those who have believed in me. While this recognition is deeply personal, I would like to dedicate it to my parents and siblings, whose constant encouragement, love, and sacrifices have been the foundation of my success. Their steadfast support has been instrumental in helping me achieve academic excellence.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my lecturer for IQM and the ABE programme for their invaluable guidance and unwavering support throughout my academic journey. The resources, mentorship, and exposure provided by the programme have been essential in helping me develop my skills and pursue my academic goals. I am deeply appreciative of the academic environment fostered by ABE, one that promotes growth, innovation, and excellence.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge my own efforts. This journey has been challenging, but through perseverance, self-belief, and hard work, I have reached this milestone. I take great pride in my progress and the strength I’ve discovered within myself. This recognition is a testament to my dedication and commitment.
