ABP to cease trading as of 23rd May 2014
The Association of Business Practitioners (ABP) has announced that it is ceasing trading on the 23rd May 2014.... more

ABE wishes to reassure all of its members, students and centres that the closure of ABP poses absolutely no risk for ABE and its future. ABE and ABP are separate companies, and ABE has no liabilities for ABP’s business. However, ABE had a Memorandum of Understanding with ABP, under which certain regulated ABE programmes were delivered by ABP centres. With immediate effect, ABE has taken over direct responsibility for the quality assurance of these programmes and the award of these qualifications. We will ensure that all students currently registered on these qualifications will be able to complete their studies, and if successful, will be awarded the qualification for which they are registered. Students with queries relating to this matter should contact their study centre.

The last date for student registrations by UK centres on to ABE qualifications previously offered through ABP is the 30th June 2014. No registrations will be accepted after this date. Registrations for overseas centres ended on 1st April 2014. For a list of these qualifications, please click here.

We will be contacting all centres affected to explain in more detail the arrangements we are putting in place.

ABE remains wholly committed to ensuring the quality, integrity, and value of the qualifications which it offers, and to protecting the interests of its learners. ABP also offered a wide range of unregulated qualifications, for which ABE does not have responsibility or ownership. We will give consideration to whether there is anything ABE can offer in respect to these qualifications. In the meantime, if centres would like to find out more about becoming an ABE approved centre delivering any of our wide range of Business Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management, or Business Start-up and Entrepreneurship qualifications at QCF Levels 4-7, they should contact Ian Fraser, ABE’s Director of Marketing & Business Development, on marketing@abeuk.com.

Anne joined ABE in 1985 as an Administrator and over the years had held many positions including Registrations and Examinations Manager. Her last role was as Senior Systems Manager which involved working on all aspects of our databases, software and IT systems.

Anne was a much loved and respected member of staff who was very brave and plucky to the end.
She will be greatly missed.

June 2013
Changes to titles of ABE QCF Qualifications from 2013
ABE is recognised by English qualifications regulator, Ofqual, for the purpose of awarding qualifications, and is bound by the rules and regulations that govern the Qualifications and Credit Framework (where our qualifications appear). ... more

Under the QCF Regulatory Arrangements all qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework must conform to a uniform title. In the case of ABE the size of our qualifications means that they will all be called “Diploma” whilst their difficulty will be denoted by the level. We will no longer be allowed to use descriptors such as “Higher,” or “Graduate” for any ABE qualification.

Therefore, from January 2013, the following qualifications will be titled as shown in the table below. UK Colleges should also take note of the new Ofqual number (provided in the last column) when issuing confirmations of acceptance for studies (CAS).
Previous Title New Title New Ofqual No.
Level 5 Diploma in Business Management (Higher) Level 5 Diploma in Business Management (600/6110/8)
Level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management (Higher) Level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management (600/6054/2)
Level 6 Diploma in Business Management (Graduate) Level 6 Diploma in Business Management (600/6055/4)
Level 6 Diploma in Human Resource Management (Graduate) Level 6 Diploma in Human Resource Management (600/6085/2)
Level 6 Diploma in Business Management (Graduate Integrated) Level 6 Extended Diploma in Business Management (600/6087/6)
Please note that the references to "Business Management" include all three Pathways (Business Management, Financial Management and Management of Information Systems).

The use of the promotional terms "Higher" and "Graduate" will also no longer apply to the Marketing Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management qualifications which are now simply the Level 5 or Level 6 Diploma as appropriate (though the Ofqual qualification titles and numbers for these qualifications are unchanged).

The qualification title change and the new Ofqual number are the only changes that will occur, and will be applicable to NEW students registering with ABE from January 2013, and existing ABE students starting a new ABE qualification after the December 2012 examinations.

The qualification title change will also affect any students who achieve their qualification in the December 2014 exam session or later.

There will be no changes at this time to:

  • Titles of indivudal units
  • Contents of individual units (syllabuses and indicative content)
  • Structure of programme (number and combination of subjects to be taken)
  • Pass mark and grade boundaries

Students who have already enrolled under the previous qualification titles will be allowed to complete that qualification using the same title up to and including the June 2014 exam session, but thereafter will progress to a qualification with the new title. For example, a student who registered for the Level 5 Diploma in Business Management (Higher) prior to January 2013 will be allowed to complete the Higher Diploma and be awarded a qualification with that title. If they then wish to proceed to level 6, their next qualification would be awarded with the new title of "Level 6 Diploma".

First college accredited to run the new ABE Diploma in Entrepreneurship
Do you want to start your own business? If you have a great business idea, but are not sure what to do next, then Makini College in Kenya could be the place for you!... more

Makini is the first college worldwide to be accredited by the Association of Business Executives (ABE) to offer its new Diploma in Entrepreneurship. ABE has introduced the new Diploma to give you the skills and knowledge you need to set up and run your own business.

“There is tremendous interest in entrepreneurship skills and an increasing understanding of their importance to the economic development of a country”, according to ABE’s Deputy CEO, Christine Gill. “We see them as a way that individuals can develop their own jobs in areas where there is a lack of employment and so introduced the Diploma in Entrepreneurship to cater for the clear need.”

Anne Kathambara-Omware from Makini College said “We are very proud to be the first college to be accredited. We think that the qualification will help people who want to have their own business, but it will also help you find a job or obtain a promotion as all organisations will gain from employing someone with an entrepreneurial outlook.”

ABE is offering a Level 4 Diploma in Entrepreneurship which means that it is the same level of learning as the first year at university. More than 50,000 students study worldwide for ABE qualifications every year through its network of accredited local colleges.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOLLOWS, SO PLEASE READ ON!... more

With the introduction of the Level 7 Diploma in Business Management (QCF), ABE took the opportunity to review the whole assessment process for this qualification.

As a result of this review substantial changes have been made to the assignment submission process.

It is therefore VERY IMPORTANT that Colleges who are accredited by ABE to offer the Level 7 Diploma in Business Management (QCF), familiarise themselves with these changes. They can do this by logging onto the Members Area of the ABE website by using their ‘College login’ details.

Once entered, please go to PgDip (L7)/ College Assignments Information/Assignment Submission Process.

Bursary agreement with Middlesex University
All ABE students are entitled to a 20% discount on the cost of their fee for the first year of their course at Middlesex University at any one of its campuses in London, Mauritius and Dubai.... more

Plus for each campus, on each intake, the highest scoring ABE student who applies will receive a 50% discount! The discount applies to third year top ups at the three campuses as well as the first year of a two or three year course.

This agreement provides tangible benefits to ABE students. It will help them use their ABE qualification to continue their studies, and moreover to do so at a prestigious university and at the campus that most suits them. In addition the best students will be rewarded for their achievement, and so there is a positive incentive for all students to do their utmost (as they could well be the top applicant to a campus).

This means that, for example, an ABE student who has passed ABE’s Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Level 6) could enrol onto the final year of Middlesex University’s BA (Hons) in International Business and thus save even more time and money in obtaining a degree thanks to the 20% (or possible 50%) discount.
