Enquiries About Results (EAR)

ABE has in place a wide range of checks and quality assurance procedures to ensure that every student who takes an ABE assessment receives a result which accurately reflects their performance in the assessment.

However, on occasion, a student may consider that their assessment result is not an accurate reflection of their performance. In such cases a student may query or challenge the mark/grade they have received. This enquiry is known as an Appeal.

For information on the ABE Results Enquiries and Appeals Policy and how to apply, please go to the Members Area.

An Enquiry about Results (EAR) is the first step for candidates that wish to enquire or challenge their result. To apply, candidates must use the EAR1 form (available in the Members Area). The EAR1 form must reach ABE no later than 10 September 2010 (for the June 2010 Exams).

The EAR form must be accompanied by the correct payment.

There are three different enquiries available:

  • Clerical Check:This service involves checking that all parts of the script have been marked, the marks have been totalled correctly and that the marks have been recorded accurately on the ABE database (within 15 working days) of receipt of the EAR1 form.
  • Re-mark of Scripts:This service will include a clerical check (see above) and reassessment of the examination script by another senior examiner (within 30 working days) of receipt of the EAR1 form
  • Re-mark of Scripts Priority Service:This service is relevant to candidates whose immediate progression onto further studies or employment is dependent on their ABE examination results. ABE aims to provide feedback to the candidate, by means of the Re-mark (Priority) Report Form (within 25 working days) of receipt of the EAR1 form.

If you do not receive a letter confirming your Re-mark grade by the time scales specified above, please check the Members Area of the ABE website for grade changes, if any.

The candidate is advised that their subject grade may be confirmed, raised or lowered as result of an EAR request.

Where the EAR request results in an upgrade, the EAR fee is refunded as a credit to the candidate’s ABE account.
