Entry requirements & exemptions

Please refer to the following list of requirements and qualifications as a concise guide to establishing the level of entry onto the various ABE programmes.

Students who wish to check their level of entry can email exemptions@abeuk.com with scanned copies of their highest qualifications.

Level 4 Diploma

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 4 ABE qualification should have one of the following entry qualifications OR work experience:

Qualifications Work experience

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 4 ABE qualification should have a:

• Any Level 3 qualification, or compulsory   school education, in any discipline, for   example:
• A Levels
• BTEC or BTEC National
• Matriculation
• NVQs
• SVQs
• Equivalent international qualifications from a   recognised body
OR

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 4 ABE qualification should have:

• Completed compulsory   education

AND

• Evidence of two years in a   business support/administration   role



AND learners should be able to demonstrate competence in English language (where English is not their primary language) by attainment of one of the following (or equivalent):

• Minimum IELTS 5.5
• LCCI English for Business (EFB) Level 1 or 2
• Pitman/City & Guilds English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or English for   Business Communication

Level 5 Diploma

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 5 ABE qualification should have one of the following entry qualifications OR work experience:

Qualifications Work experience

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 5 ABE qualification should have a:

• Level 4 ABE qualification (students must have   passed at least 2 units before being eligible to   begin the Level 5)

OR

• Any other Level 4 qualification in a business   and related discipline, for example:
• BTEC National Diploma
• NVQs
• Access to Higher Education Certificate
• Equivalent international qualifications from a   recognised body
OR

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 5 ABE qualification should have:

• Evidence of at least two years   in employment in a relevant   industry at supervisory level









AND learners should be able to demonstrate competence in English language (where English is not their primary language) by attainment of one of the following (or equivalent):

• Minimum IELTS 5.5
• LCCI English for Business (EFB) Level 1 or 2
• Pitman/City & Guilds English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or English for   Business Communication

Level 6 Diploma

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 6 ABE qualification should have one of the following entry qualifications OR work experience:

Qualifications Work experience

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 6 ABE qualification should have a:

• Level 5 ABE qualification

OR

• Any other Level 5 equivalent in a related   subject, for example:
• One or two years’ study of Business,   Management or related qualifications at a   Higher Education Institution
• BTEC
• HND/HNC
• NVQs
• Associate, Bachelors, General or Ordinary   Degree
• Equivalent international qualifications   from a recognised body
OR

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 6 ABE qualification should have:

• Evidence of at least three years in   employment in a relevant industry   with managerial responsibilities












AND learners should be able to demonstrate competence in English language (where English is not their primary language) by attainment of one of the following (or equivalent):

• Minimum IELTS 5.5
• LCCI English for Business (EFB) Level 1 or 2
• Pitman/City & Guilds English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or English for   Business Communication

Level 7 Diploma

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 7 ABE qualification should have one of the following entry qualifications OR work experience:

Qualifications Work experience

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 7 ABE qualification should have a:

• Level 6 ABE qualification

OR

• Bachelors (Honours) degree in   Business, Management or related   subjects

OR

• Any other Level 6 equivalent   qualification in a related subject, for   example:
• BTEC
• Graduate certificate
• Graduate diploma
OR

A learner wishing to gain entry onto a Level 7 ABE qualification should have:

• Evidence of at least 5 years in   employment in a relevant industry at   senior management level














Learners should be able to demonstrate competence in English language (where English is not their primary language) by attainment of the following (or equivalent):

• Minimum IELTS 5.5
• LCCI English for Business (EFB) Level 1 or 2
• Pitman/City & Guilds English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or English for   Business Communication


Exemptions


Exemptions from Level 4, 5 or 6 Diploma subjects may be granted to holders of qualifications of certain other professional bodies, provided that such qualifications have been obtained by external examination.

Please note that no exemptions are available in the Level 7 Diploma.


All applications for exemptions must be supported by acceptable documentary evidence (in English) of the qualification(s) and the grade or standard attained. Any exemptions granted will be confirmed in writing.


How to apply for an exemption:


Existing ABE students


Please complete the exemption form in the Members Area and return it to ABE along with copies of your qualifications, certificates and transcripts.

No exemptions will be granted from any units previously failed in the ABE examinations.
